Description The herbarium of the Barcelona Botanical Institute, known internationally by the initials 'BC', specializes in the flora of the western Mediterranean. However, it also houses plants from other parts of Europe and Africa, as well as South America and other parts of the world. Its 800,000 specimens represent the most important plant collection in Catalonia and the second most important in Spain. It is divided into four sections: the general herbarium, the historical herbariums with examples collected between the 17th and the beginning of the 20th centuries, the cryptogram herbarium and, finally, a series of other collections from different areas of the world or of different types of plant.
