Description The library of the Botanical Institute of Barcelona provides documental support to the research activities developed in the center. It is also a library opened to everyone interested in botanics and related subjects.

Its origin goes back to 1937, when it belonged to the former institute set up by Pius Font i Quer. This institute was the succesor of the Department of Botanics of the Martorell Museum (nowadays, Natural Science Museum).

Its foundational collection has a huge value. Apart from the material which came from de Department of Botanics of the Martorell Museum, it incorporates important bibliographic items and a reference collection about the Western Mediterranean flora. They were joined together by Font i Quer during his harvest works in order to create a huge herbarium of iberic flora and flora of the North of Africa.

In 1998 the library integrates with the CSIC Libraries Network. Its collection consists of more than 8500 monographs, about 1400 serial titles, maps and microfiches.
