The Collection of Thin Section

Name The Collection of Thin Section
Description To complement the documentation and research, a collection of rock sections has been built up. This collection (4197 samples) can be divided into two groups, one dating from 1900–1950 and the other from 1950 onwards. It contains many smaller collections and donations, and the origin and the types of lithologies are very varied. Of great importance, though, are the donations by Gonzalo Moragas, the largest such donation, which consists of 1,300 sections, and that by Norbert Font i Sagué, which is the most original. In the years 1998–2004 in which the Museum’s rock slides laboratory was operating, many new sections were added to the collection.
