Description The herbarium of Estanislau Vayreda i Vila (1848-1901) was lent to the Institute on permanent loan by his son, Pere Vayreda i Olives, in 1934 and includes around 30,000 specimens. Vayreda was a member of the Société Helvétique pour l’Échange des Plantes and the Botanical Society of Barcelona. His herbarium contains plants from Catalonia, above all from La Garrotxa, Guilleries and L’Empordà, as well as material obtained via exchanges with other European botanists. It contains the type sheets for taxa tha both he and Costa described, including Allium pyrenaicum Costa & Vayreda and Polygala vayredae Costa (endemic to La Garrotxa).
