The Algerian Hedgehog is an omnivorous species that feeds at night on small vertebrates, arthropods, fungi, carrion and other types of food. Its cranium is small, flattened with a slender zygomatic arch. It is also characterized by a bone lamina with a transversal crest and a medial spine at the back of the palate. Its dentition is characterized by final premolars with a single cusp that allow the protoconid and paracone to meet. It has 36 teeth in the following dental formula: I 3/2, C 1/1, P 3/2, M 2/2.
