Description:

The Silky Tamarin is omnivorous and eats invertebrates, small vertebrates, fruit and leaves. Its cranium is small and very rounded, with a high domed forehead. The orbits are large and the superciliary arches situated above the eyes ? where the temporal muscles used for mastication and grinding plant matter are attached ? are partially developed. Its dentition is bunodont, with low rounded cusps. Its teeth are well designed for cutting, breaking up and grinding plants. It has 36?38 teeth, with the following dental formula: I 2/2, C 1/1, P 3/3, M 2/2.
