The Brown Rat is an opportunistic omnivore that feeds on anything it can find but above all on cereals and seeds, worms, insects and other invertebrates, and even cardboard, bones and bee wax. It skull is large and pointed, robust and angular, and has large and continuously growing incisors but no canine teeth or pre-molars. Its dental formula is I 1/1, C 0/0, P 0/0, M 3/3.
