The Great Cormorant is a robust bird that inhabits wetlands such as rivers, lakes and coastlines. Its skull is long and pear-shaped, and has a long narrow bill that is thicker than the Shag's. Its bill is curved towards the tip, which helps it catch fish underwater. Its lower mandible reaches beyond the orbital ring, unlike in the Shag. The Cormorant is an excellent swimmer and it feeds essentially on fish, abveo all eels.
