The Eurasian Green Woodpecker lives in forests in Eurasia. Its small skull is very round and houses a series of cephalic muscles that enable this woodpecker to drill in trees in search of food. Its long, thin triangular bill has a very tough rhamphotheca that, along with the mandibles, forms the bill. As in other species of this order, it finds its food by hammering or drumming on tree trunks. Its long bill enables it to reach food items such as termites and invertebrate larvae and pupae that live in wood.
