The Roe Deer is an even-toed ungulate that mainly feeds on herbaceous dicotyledons plants but also occasionally on woody plants, seeds and fruit in autumn. Its cranium is elongated and relatively small, and the forward tips of the nasal bones are bifurcated and touch the maxillary bones. The maxillary bone is high and the same length as the molar arcades due to its hypsodont dentition. Its teeth are hypsodont with high crowns, and selenodont with ridged molars that are used for grinding up tough plant matter. It has 32 teeth but no incisors or upper canine teeth. Its dental formula is as follows: I 0/3, C 0/1, P 3/3, M 3/3.
