The Common Hedgehog is omnivorous and feeds on invertebrates such as slugs, worms beetles and other insects, although it will also eat fruit and some fungi. Its cranium is long with a short face and has a complete zygomatic arch. Unlike the Algerian Hedgehog, its palate has two large fenestrations with a medial osseous spine at the rear. Its dentition is characterised by a vertical first upper incisor that is bigger than the other teeth; its lower first incisor is horizontal. It has three cusps on its molar teeth (trituberculate). It has 36 teeth with the following dental formula: I 3/2, C 1/1, P 3/2, M 3/3.
